Scuba Diving in Grand Cayman

With such incredible visibility and sea life, Scuba Diving in Grand Cayman is second to none.

The Carribean reefs are amazing; prepare to see beautiful eagle rays, reef shark, angelfish, barracuda, stingray, brightly colored sponges, corals, sea turtles, and don’t forget the amazing Caribbean Reef Octopus.

The Caribbean Reef Octopus is one of the most wonderful and beautiful creatures to spot while scuba diving in Grand Cayman.

Consider taking a good quality high-definition camera with you on your scuba diving adventures; the Caribbean Reef Octopus contstantly changes color and a good underwater camera does an amazing job of capturing this.

You will want to capture so many amazing sights! Over 500 species of fish have been known to swim in Grand Cayman’s beautiful waters.

The North Wall features some of the most famous dive sites in the Caribbean. It is formed by a sudden drop from about 80 feet to thousands of feet in depth of the Cayman Trench.

Just imagine witnessing a drop of 6000 feet into the deep blue waters of the Caribbean!  How awesome is that?

In order to scuba dive in Grand Cayman you must present your certification card or take a resort certification course (1/2 day) enabling you to dive only at the place giving the course.

Most of the Dive Companies in Grand Cayman offer complete diving certification courses you can complete in 6 days enabling you to dive anywhere but it is wise to check this out before you leave.

Remember to drink plenty of water before you begin a dive and if possible avoid alcohol the night before. You want to be in a tip-top healthy condition before your scuba diving experience to avoid complications such as decompression sickness. If you are in any doubt, be sure to speak to a qualified Dive Instructor before you go.

Grand Cayman's Newest Scuba Diving Attraction

The newest scuba diving attraction in Grand Cayman is the USS Kittiwake. Donated from the US Maritime Administration, she arrived in Cayman on Christmas Day 2010 and was sunk to form an artificial reef on January 5 2011. The USS Kittiwake lies just off the Seven Mile Beach; the bottom sits approximately 65 feet beneath the ocean's surface. With the top of the wreck only 15 feet from the surface, the wreck is a great underwater attraction for snorkelers and scuba divers alike.

I agree with Movie Master - the videos are fantastic! The sinking of the Kittiwake gives me a strange feeling though, even though it's on purpose there is such a feeling of finality as it slips under the surface.

Thanks for a great hub filled with good information :)
