PHEW! 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge: My Story
68August has been a very busy month for me! I woke up one morning and decided that I was going to start the HubPages “30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge” and without further ado I started getting pen to paper to come up with some topics to write about.
In this hub, which is the 30th and last hub of my challenge, I wanted to take some time to share my experiences with everyone. I hope that in doing so, I might inspire others to join HubPages and to take a 30 day challenge for themselves.
Now, just to give you some background, I joined HubPages back in February 2011, mostly with an aim to earn a little bit of extra money and have some fun in the process. I started writing a few hubs here and there about topics that I enjoy. My initial idea to start off was to write about the island of Grand Cayman, because I travel there frequently and got married there a few years ago – I am completely in love with the island and enjoy writing about it and sharing my photographs. I also like sharing my interests in food and drink, my recipes, and also the tips I’ve learned about saving and making money.
Back in February I started writing a few hubs but I didn’t really know what I was doing and so muddled my way through quite a bit. At that time, I didn’t understand the power and support of the HubPages community; I did not get involved in the forums, I didn’t spend enough time reading the HubPages tutorials, and I didn’t take full advantage of the wealth of information that is available in other hubs. And I had absolutely no clue about keyword tagging or SEO! So for me it was a bit of a steep learning curve in the beginning.
For a while, I couldn’t understand why people weren’t coming to read my hubs, but over a few weeks I started to build up some friendships with other hubbers. I began taking some time to read their work, leave some comments, and to follow some more people. I started to get a few followers myself. My followers in turn would visit my profile and take a look at some of my own hubs, too. By leaving good quality and meaningful comments, my new found followers slowly helped me to understand what a true community spirit there is here on HubPages.
From Despondent to Determined!
However, it did cross my mind whether all this writing was worth the effort. After all, my initial reason for signing up for HubPages was to make a little money online. Around April of this year, I checked my Google Adsense and yes, you’ve guessed it, a bit fat whopping ZERO sat in my account. I checked my Amazon Affiliate account, too. Nothing. Feeling a little despondent, I decided to take a bit of time away from HubPages and to think about what I was going to do next.
I checked out some of the HubPages success stories, which can be accessed from the HubPages Home Page. It seemed that it really was possible to make money online with HubPages and so thinking that there might be something to this after all, I started to READ.
Over the next couple of months, I did not publish any more new hubs. Instead, I spent a bit of time researching some of basics of HubPages, including how to come up with interesting topics to write, how to properly set up capsules and how to understand the purpose of keyword tags.
I read through the success stories of Kathryn Vercillo and Marye Audet. I especially enjoyed reading through the wealth of information in Mark Knowles’ hubs; I learned so much from his hub "The Best Easiest Way to Make Money Online is to Open a HubPages Account".
Researching and learning gave me the confidence I needed to continue on my journey with HubPages. And so, at the beginning of August 2011, I decided to take a leap of faith and get serious about writing online. I was prepared that this wasn’t going to be easy, but I was beginning to understand that there is a great deal of support here on HubPages; I knew that with a little patience I could find answers to the many, many questions that were rolling around in my mind.
The Challenge
I realized that one of the ways to learn and grow in HubPages is to take part in this “30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge”. I knew this challenge was available but I didn’t know anything about it, and so I looked around in the forums for information and advice. I am very grateful to Denise Handlon for swiftly pointing me in the right direction to get started, and before long I understood how the concept of this challenge works. Basically, there is a challenge forum set up that was first started by Darkside. This forum is a place where all hubbers taking the challenge can declare their participation in the challenge, as well as post links to their hubs along the way. There are no big rules to the challenge; the idea is that everyone in the forum is a support group to one another on their journey. And what a great support group it is! The "30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge" forum can be accessed by clicking here.
So with that, I decided then and there that I would write 30 hubs in 30 days no matter what! But I had to develop a strategy. Right from the start I felt motivated and inspired, and so I got a piece of pen and paper and started writing down a list of ideas for topics, ranging from categories that I was very familiar with, interested in and had already explored, to topics that I thought might be interesting (but I knew I was going to have to do a lot more research on them!). I surprised myself; within one hour I had already come up with FIFTY ideas, and had started to put pen to paper for the first one.
At this point, I didn’t worry about how I was going to promote or market my hubs, I knew that this would all be part of the learning process…for now, I just needed to WRITE, and that’s exactly what I did!
To begin with I was rather methodical in my approach, working through the list of topics that I had created in quite an orderly fashion and researching each one and making lots of notes along the way. My mind became “hub-focused”. I was publishing an article a day and getting into a pretty good groove and thoroughly starting to enjoy myself. Not only was I cranking out an article a day but the momentum in doing so actually INCREASED! I became more focused on being a part of the HubPages community and got into the habit of reading more and more of other people’s hubs. I started to really actively follow other hubbers and take extra interest in their work, posting comments along the way.
My mind started racing with many more ideas and like a bull in a china shop I found myself scribbling down ideas, notes, and tidbits of information, anything I could find that would be useful to my hubs. I now keep a notebook next to my bed because these ideas seem to come to me at the strangest times of the day and night! I just kept on going, determined to publish at least one article a day to the best of my ability. I knew that I could always go back and edit them afterwards.
My 30 Hubs
From the day of publishing my first hub, until the date of publishing this 30th one, it has been exactly 26 days. I had managed to complete my challenge with four days to spare! Are the hubs any good though? Well, I will let you be the judge of that. Here they are:-

30) PHEW! 30 Hubs in 30 Days: My Story
To my complete amazement, my 8th hub “Simplest Way to Light Your Campfire” was awarded a “Hub of the Day” accolade by HubPages. I felt so happy and humbled for this recognition and I still can’t believe how many incredible, encouraging comments I have received from everyone!
What Next?
Now that I have completed this “30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge”, I don’t plan on sitting back and hoping that they will earn a few cents. Far from it. I recognize that earning money online takes lots of effort, dedication and commitment. This is where my real work starts! My strategy now is to focus on editing and optimizing them.
So now I intend to spend a lot more time properly researching the keywords for each of the topics I have written about, and then I will be able to tag them more appropriately to improve my search engine rankings and traffic.
I have found an excellent keyword analysis tool that is already helping me to understand and implement this. If you are also interested in using a keyword analysis tool to optimize your hubs then click here for details of how you can download a free trial of the software and check if out for yourself.
Over time, I also intend to add more content, including more text, photographs, videos and fun capsules. And along the way, I am sure that I will sign up for another “30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge”.
Making Friends Along The Way
To all my followers and readers - without you, my friends, I would surely have given up on my endeavour to complete the “30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge” and may have even given up on HubPages altogether. But thanks to you all, I am making many new friends and learning so much more than I could have imagined along the way. I am now motivated and inpired to continue with some hard work with a hope to become successful in my endeavours to write online. With some hard work and determination, maybe it is possible for us to make a little money online after all, by writing about the things we enjoy.
For anyone else considering getting serious about writing online with Hubpages, I would highly recommend taking the plunge and starting a "30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge" - it's a great place to start!
While I am so very grateful to everyone who has read and commented on my all hubs, I would like to take a moment to give a very special mention to Denise Handlon, homesteadbound, and annmackiemiller who followed all the links I posted in the Challenge Forum and have kept me motivated to keep on going through the challenge. I wish you every success in the completion of your own challenges and I will be sure to pop in on the forum from time to time to check out your latest links.
I want to say a special thank you to my Mum, Movie Master, for always being there for me and supporting me - in everything I do!

This sounds just like my journey through the first few months of my joining HubPages. The 30 in 30('s) was what helped me along as well, after months of not really knowing what i was doing. but i just kept on writing.
Denise Handon is an inspiration, and though i've been here longer than she has, i still learn so much from her, both in her writings and inspiring ways.
This the beginning of a success story for you Cloverleaf.
Best of luck and Blessings.
AND congratulations on completing the challenge, and in good time too.
Cloverleaf, I am usually very good at making connections but failed to do so with you and one of my all time favorites - Movie Master!

Congratulations to you! I tried this challenge, but unfortunately I didn't stick with it, even though I did stick to writing on Triond for 30 days! I'm actually doing really well there at the moment!
Well done and enjoyed the read here...
Blessings
Hey - congratulations Cloverleaf. I have read many of your 30 hubs and have already put to use your campfire tips. I never knew to make it sort of tee-pee style. That was a real eye-opener for me. I'm probably at half your pace - maybe somebody needs to create the 28 hubs in 56 days for me challenge. Anyway, that is quite a feat you accomplished. I look forward to reading many more of your hubs.
Congratulations on this awesome accomplishment! I have considered the challenge myself but have not yet stepped up to the plate. You have inspired me! I appreciate the mention as well! That was pretty cool. I just came across this Hub in the Feed and I don't know why this is only the first time I have come across it. Either way, Congratulations on a job well done! Keep up the great work!
JSMatthew~
Congratulations Cloverleaf, well done! They were fabulous hubs too!

Your story is so inspiring and your experiences are valueless. You reap what you sow. You deserved it. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful experience.
Well how about you! Now I have to figure out how I missed this until now? Life gets crazy but to miss this??? You've got me thinking about giving this a try...I'll be back to this hub to read through the links, including looking at your 30 days of hubs in order to see the progression. Fun stuff, and helpful for you as you did it, helpful to us that you wrote about it. Congrats on this defining coup!!! :) You are no longer just a hubber--you are an accomplished hubber!
Congratulations, that's work and your good at it.
It's taking me forever just to go over my hubs and fine tune them. When I read some of them I wonder "what was I thinking."
Congratulations! What a great accomplishment.
I really enjoyed reading many of your hubs and I look forward to read your next article, but first maybe a vacation is in order for you? LoL!
Sannel
What a fantastic hub! Congratulations on your accomplishment. I've been thinking about taking the 30 day challenge myself, as I already have a pretty good list of potential hubs. Just trying to find those 30 days on my calendar! I came across Hubpages a couple of months ago quite by accident as I was doing some on-line research for my novel and now I'm having so much fun here that my novel has been more than a bit neglected. I do feel like I need to spend a bit of time researching SEO and keywords and all those other terms that were completely unfamiliar to me 7 weeks ago. I will start with some of the links in this hub. Thanks for sharing your thoughts - up, awesome, useful and interesting!
Hello Cloverleaf: I am amazed that people in general would try this feat. I am even more amazed when people, such as yourself, not only complete this feat but do so by offering high quality writing. I'd just like to say thank you. I enjoy your writing and today you have impressed me yet again.!!!!!
Hi Cloverleaf, congratulations on completing your 30 day challenge and what a great range of hubs you have written about. I have started something similar, I have written a hub a day for the last 5 days and its tough with work and kids etc, but I am excited and very motivated at the moment. You have done brilliantly and can now sigh a huge relief. I will be certain to have a look at your hubs once I have written out my hub for tomorrow! Lol. Congratulations and best wishes. Jacqui
My story is also like you I have started as same thinking like you but I know that there is a great future in Hubs but on the other hand I have apply for challenge but due to my study I have never complete and I am not know how about keywords I am totally new in this field.
I will see your profile after this message for keywords and more knowledge. For me you are my ideal as you are the first one who comment on my Hubs.
My Teacher is you and I will follow you because I after reading this hub note that knowledge will come to you if you will go through it by reading.
Thanks Again for your this story. Good Luck and Enjoy
Thank You Cloverleaf,
The thirty day challenge and your account of it has inspired me to attempt this journey. Making a list of the thirty hubs is my goal for today. Will use this article as my constant motivation.
-Nicolas
Hi Cloverleaf,
The list is going painfully, it is actually a tall task. Trying to figure out 500 words, plus edit, plus some graphics, plus keywords equals 2 hours per day. Just making excuses, but will jump on it shortly. Thanks for the motivation.
Thanks
-Nicolas
Thought I left a comment here, meant to, sorry. I did this several months and wow it is a job. I have been here two years and just now taking a day away now and then. You are one of the better hubbers I have met, you are doing great.
Polly
Hi. Congratulations on your great achievement. I am so glad that I got the chance to read this. It's very inspiring and I think I will make time before the end of the year to join the 30 hubs in 30 days challenge, too. I've been wanting to but haven't had the time. More power to you.
Congratulations Cloverleaf,
I appreciate how difficult the 30 hubs in 30 days challenge can be. You are an inspriation to us all. Keep it up!
I juts finsihed the 100 hubs in 30 day challenge myself.
Congrats.
JT
Congrats on reaching 30 hubs in 30 days! I have been contemplating this challenge myself...but I have a bit of a commitment phobia :) what happens if I dont reach 30 hubs in 30 days? Can I do 5 hubs one day and then 10 another day and then 15 the next 28 days?
Wow JT - I didnt even realize there was a 100 hubs in 30 days. Thats astonomical!
You did a great job Cloverleaf! I plan on checking out several of the new Hubs : )
As a newbie to Hubpages your article is an inspiration motivating me to write, research and connect. Thanks you!
Hi CLoverleaf, thank you for the info and for the anticipated support in November. I will look into the 30 hubs/30 days challenge after the contest. It will give me something to do in this cold weather!
Hi
Wooww. I joined only slightly over a week ago and only managed 2hubs..you are incredible!!! I have problem with my grammar and worry too much abt it and sometimes this dragged me down. You have that flair I guess for writing, maybe that's why you accomplished the 30/30 challenge..remind me of something similar that i saw (a movie) on TV abt this girl who wanted to do all the recipes within 30days (can't remember the movie title)
Congrats
Cloverleaf, this is so inspiring! The hubs you have written look very good and I love your organized approach. That sounds like a good idea to have a plan for your writing and the plan obviously worked!
I have not made it in the 30 day challenge although I have tried once but didn't finish. Thanks for sharing your story: it is inspiring to the rest of us!
Cloverleaf- I really enjoyed reading your hub, which was filled with inspiration and so many helpful tips. Connecting with people here is one of the best parts of writing on HubPages. The 30 Day Challenges seem to offer many benefits and an article a day is really pretty doable. So far, I am at a hub a month- LOL! Wishing you continued success!
great share ^^ i'm a newbie here, by reading your hub i got some inspirations at first. thanks
Many congratulations to you, cloverleaf.
Good Job! I bet it feels good to accomplish this amazing goal. You may have just inspired me to do the same thing. Coming up with stuff to write about that quick must have been a challenge. Well great work and keep it up.
fantastic!! what a great effort :)
Great hub, cloverleaf! I just created an account on HubPages today and found this hub incredibly useful. You have not only inspired me to take the "30 Hubs in 30 Days" challenge, but have given me the information and confidence to do it right. Thank you! Good luck with your writing!
This is a great hub. Congrats on getting to 30 hubs in less than 30 days and thanks for the advice. I have been doing the challenge without officially entering.
A very inspirational and honest experience on hubpages. i would love to read even more on it. Try to make the part 2 of it !
I liked your 30th hub very much and admire your determination and audacity to take this challenge. I can only imagine the work it takes. I also signed up in Hubpages at the beginning of this year and went through the same process you described above; learned the same lesson as well: community interaction is an important key to success. I can't say I'll take the 30 Hubs in 30 Days challenge because it is too much pressure for me, especially since English is not my first language, but I am certainly following all your other helpful tips.
Now you are another challenge! You are amazing and all I have to say is good for you on this one too! What an accomplishment! :)
I am taking part in my own challenge, the 90 hubs in 30 days to kick start my journey on Hubpages and get started on this site more quickly i wish you luck and hope your challenge goes along smoothly.
