How to Cure Constipation Fast
78An Embarrassing Problem?
Maybe. But constipation is also a very real problem, endured by hundreds of thousands of people all around the world every day. If food is not digested properly then it cannot move properly through your digestive system. This can lead to that all too familiar feeling of pain, bloating, and fullness.
Constipation could be a warning that there is an imbalance in your body due to diet and lifestyle. If you’re looking to learn how to cure constipation fast then I would suggest that you explore some natural remedies to maintain a healthy chemical balance and improve colon health.
There are many different natural remedies to choose from and finding the best remedy does vary from person to person, however here are my top 5 suggestions.
#1 Eat Plenty of Fiber
In a previous hub “Learn How To Keep Your Digestive System Healthy”, I talked about the importance of getting enough soluble fiber in your daily diet. Regularly eating plenty fiber is a huge contributing factor to preventing constipation from happening in the first place. If you don’t consume enough dietary fiber then your body simply cannot process the food you eat.
When you’re next out grocery shopping, think about buying foods that include plenty of fiber, for example high-fiber cereals, wheat, vegetables and fruits such as prunes, raisins, apples and berries. If you want to learn how to cure constipation fast then eating plenty of fiber is the first step to getting on the right track.
Thanks to Sunshine625 for recommending freshly ground flax-seed in the comments section below. Flax seed is very high in fiber and is also a powerful antioxident that is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and low in carbohydrates.
#2 Don't Overuse Laxatives
The purpose of laxatives is to temporarily help alleviate the symptoms of constipation. However, taking too many or using them too frequently could actually do your body more harm than good by distorting the natural balance of your digestive system. Once you stop taking them it may take some time before the natural balance is restored. Some people might think that if they take laxatives every day then they won’t have to address the real cause of their constipation.
It’s important to remember that extensive use or abuse of laxatives can actually lead to serious eating disorders; the book “The Mirror Lied” (featured opposite and available from Amazon) is a gripping biography of one young lady’s struggle with laxative abuse and anorexia and is a real eye-opener.
A much better solution is to learn how to cure constipation naturally.
#3 Get Out and Exercise
Getting plenty of regular exercise is another natural aid to relieving constipation because it helps to make your bowels move!
So get out and walk the dog or go jogging and know that you are doing your body some good. Try to maintain a regular routine of doing a bit of exercise every day to clear your body of constipation.
#4 Herbs are Your Friend
A daily dose of herbs can be quite beneficial in helping to overcome the problems of constipation. Herbs are generally thought of as an excellent natural remedy to many ailments.
The best herbs to help ease constapation are liquorice, dandelion, ginger, and yellow dock and can be found in store bought herbal teas or can even be infused at home to make your own tea. A good idea might be to enjoy a cup of herbal tea with every meal you eat to keep your digestive system and bowels functioning smoothly.
#5 Drink Plenty of Water
Our bodies need water to survive, but in actual fact most people don’t drink enough every day. Drinking plenty of water is probably the most natural way to flush out toxins from our system and clear constipation. If you find that drinking plain old water is too boring, then check out my hub “5 Ways to Make Water More Interesting” for some interesting ideas on how to add fruit, vegetables and natural flavourings to make water a lot more enjoyable to drink.
Water is the optimum liquid to drink to help alleviate constipation, however fruit juices, herbal and green tea are also great for ensuring that your meet your liquid requirements while adding some great additional health benefits, too.

Well done cloverleaf! Useful information and details, as always. I recommend flaxseed for digestion issues...freshly ground. It's a wonder seed. I'm the flax fairy in my household. This hub's got my vote!
Fiber One bars, I have found, are great for this problem :-)
Okay now i'll try ground flax seed to sprinkle on my meals. Thank both of you.
Another great hub, Cloverleaf! I add bran flakes to casseroles, hamburger patties, meat loaf, stews, etc. You don't even taste it and everyone in the family gets a fiber boost! Thanks for sharing the good info.
I am glad to say, Cloverleaf, that it is not a problem I am familiar with but good to know what to do should it crop up. I particularly like the water tip because so many people don't think of basics like that.
Opening my bank statements is another remedy I would consider in the circumstances... :)!
Great Hub and seriously don't doubt it will be very useful to a great many people.
I just read your 30 hub day challenge hub where you listed all your hubs and was amazed at the variety of topics you covered - Is this 31? I love the title with the word "fast" in it.
Great information Cloverleaf, well, it was an embarrassing problem of mine before, though, I am glad to know that besides drinking plenty of water and getting enough fiber, you shared with us the other "fast" aids which I really overlooked...thanks girl for the well done job! Cheers!
Hi Cloverleaf! You have some very good stuff here. It is amazing how so many people are constipated as a result of a sedentary lifestyle, eating the wrong foods and not drinking water.
You have provided us with another well written, informative hub (and thanks for adding a link to my green tea hub).
Voted up, up and away!
Well done cloverleaf!!! Flax seed is a rock star! FYI: It's also beneficial for hot flashes! I think you can write an entire hub on the benefits of flax seed! :)
Hi - great, useful information. Bookmarking for future reference - thank you.
Hi Cloverleaf
good hub very informative. I suffer constantly from this because I take so many pain relief tablets, I've make my own bread and I now use a higher bran flour which has helped, combined with weetabix for breakfast.
The problem is growing in teenagers these days because their diets are lacking in vegetables and fruit.
Spoken like a true Scotsman Gordon...:)
thanks for sharing Cloverleaf....Tony
That is good advice about teas and juices. I just cannot drink water no matter how great anyone claims it is, it just isn't like water I drank growing up and loved but I can guzzle teas and juices! Great hub. Wow I didn't know you were doing the 30 in 30. I did that for probably a year (not as Jackie) and it was so therapeutic for me watching my mom slowly die. It got me through a really bad time. Good luck! You are a great writer and it is cheerful to follow and read you.
Great tips there by you friend. Well i would like to add here that eating papaya and Guava can help in this as well. Guava has helped me a lot many a times
Cloverleaf, you've tackled a problem not everyone likes to talk about. I thank goodness do not have this problem...I am so regular, do to good Diet, Exercise and Vitamins. But for those that do suffer, you've really given some good sound, reliable advice.
I'm going to have to hang out here in the mornings again. I miss your hubs too many times. This is a keeper. Thanks
Hi, Cloverleaf. I have been troubled by constipation for a long time. Thanks for sharing these natural remedies...well, I would like to have a try. Votp Up!
Now here's something I can get behind, pun intended. Voting this Up and Useful.
haha alocsin--and thanks cloverleaf, for the great info on a rarely discusssed problem. voting up and useful
Great hub on a not so discussed issue. Well done and well researched!
Excellent, sound, and sensible advice. Anyone who incorporates these steps into everyday living should never need a laxative. Up and useful.

Great hub - I love this subject, haha. I work with the elderly who are obsessed with their bowels, so I know so much about constipation (not me though!). It's so important to keep ourselves healthy, and diet and exercise helps with it all. Very interesting.
