Extreme Couponing - Online!

If, like me, you consider yourself to be a savvy shopper, then the concept of Extreme Couponing is probably already familiar to you. Extreme Couponing, simply put, is the concept of applying multiple discounts to everyday consumer goods by way of using coupons and special offers.

In the United States, multiple discounts can be achieved by purchasing items on sale, and then “stacking” clipped coupons to reduce the cost of an item to a bare minimum (or even free). In Canada, stacking clipped coupons is generally not permitted by stores, but because items frequently go on sale, or clearance, applying just one coupon can have an enormous impact on the amount of everyday savings.

Traditional couponing is a great deal of fun, and can be quite addictive! I thoroughly enjoy searching for coupons, clipping them and organizing them in my coupon binder. Every week, I check the store flyers to see where the most savings can be made on items I intend to purchase, and then happily set off to the store to put my couponing plan into action. There’s something very satisfying about getting home with my shopping, looking at my final receipt and realizing the savings that I’ve made.

Generally speaking, printed coupons offer savings of perhaps $2.00 or less when used individually, and are mostly valid for groceries, pharmacy products, or everyday household items. But using printed coupons is just one way of achieving significant savings on purchases.

For our retail shopping needs (clothes, electronics, gifts etc.) more and more consumers now shop online, for convenience, variety, and potentially big savings. All it takes is just a few clicks of the mouse to visit an online store, search for products, add them to the shopping cart, and then checkout. It’s certainly a lot easier to shop online than to fight with traffic, crowds, parking, and risk the chance of leaving a store empty handed because an item wasn’t in stock, or they didn’t have our size. Online retail shopping has become a revolutionary way to shop; even if you’re not internet savvy the process is constantly being made easier by the offering of simple search options, point and click ordering, international shipping and easy returns.

Thanks to online coupons and promotional codes, it is now possible to apply our Extreme Couponing strategies to online retail shopping as well! Online merchants frequently offer sales and clearances where considerable savings can be made on purchases, and most often consumers are satisfied with these savings alone. But, by taking advantage of a sale and then combining those savings with an online coupon, the savings can be magnified in the same manner as they are with traditional couponing methods.

Let’s take Victoria Secret as an example. On their website, they are currently offering a clearance of 65% off over 1600 styles.

Example:

Pajamas original price $49.50 - Sale Price: $29.00

Hoodie original price $39.50 - Sale Price $19.99

T-Shirt Original Price $39.50 - Sale Price $19.99

Jeans Original Price $69.50 - Sale Price $34.99

In addition to taking advantage of these already heavily discounted offers, I would then head over to CouponSnapshot.com to very quickly search for additional saving opportunities with the merchant Victoria Secret. Victoria Secret is one of the many online stores that will allow multiple “stacking” of online coupons to maximize the savings, accepting up to a maximum of 3 online coupons per purchase.

NOTE: It is important to note that each merchant carries a different policy when it comes to online coupon stacking and so it is wise to check on the “help” section of their website before you shop.

So in the case of my Victoria Secret example above, I am able to receive FREE shipping, 2nd Day Express Upgrade (a $10.99 value), and an additional $15 off my purchase by using online coupons.

Original Cost = $208.99

Actual Out of Pocket = $88.97

Total Savings = $120.02

I don't think I do extreme coupons but I do the usual ones we find in newspapers and our food store sends us their coupons. Using coupons and shopping at this store alway helps us to add up points when we shop and when we use their c.c. it adds up points for gas. Voted interesting and useful.

Hey this is a great advice and really does work. If you do it right, you should never have to pay full price for anything. We've been doing this for years and sometimes, although not always, we can find some good deals and every saved dollar counts.! Great Hub- Thanks for sharing.

Every penny counts in times like these. In the U.K. we have a similar type of thing with some items. I find vouchers in newspapers, magazines and sometimes get them sent by local supermarkets to encourage you into the store. Today I used a voucher in store and saved £10 on my shopping and was given a voucher to save money on my next visit to the petrol station. Great hub with great money saving tips. Voted up - useful/interesting.

Writer20, those points really do add up, don't they! Thanks for your comment...and keep on saving!

Movie Master, that's great about your toothpaste! Yesterday I got 2x$3 Aveeno coupons, a free razor, and perfume samples. I also saved 20% on an online purchase using a promo code. Life is good :)

Sunshine, free panties are always good :) I got so excited when I learned that I could stack 3 Victoria Secret coupons at once!

tsmog, happy treasure hunting my friend! I hope you find some good stuff.

KDF, it sounds like couponing is working well for you. There are really so many great deals out there that it opens up a whole new world when you know what to look for. Thank you for coming by to comment, take care.

SimpleGiftsofLove, you're very welcome! Have a great day :)

Jacqui2011, good for you for saving all that money on your shopping! When I lived in the UK, coupons seemed few and far between. I was researching UK couponing recently for my Mum and came across http://www.supersavvyme.co.uk/ and http://www.beforeishop.co.uk - both excellent resources for saving money in the UK. Have you heard of them?

Great info. I have gotten into couponing in recent months. I am so thrilled when I end up applying a coupon and getting a product for free. I am in Canada too so I doubt I could be an extreme couponer. My best deal, Wonderbread on sale for 99 cents and having a $2 coupon off two. Facebook has lots of ways to get coupons too, got free bacon from Maple Leaf there for example.

Currently I don't have a working printer so have to rely on mailed out coupons.

Well, this wonderful hub has convinced me to start saving coupons. I know most folks do this, but I have just not wanted to bother. But thats all changed after reading this hub.

I LOVE to save money when shopping (in any amount). I get as excited over a dime as I do a dollar :-)

You have given some awesome information on couponing online. And I do most of my shopping on line. Bookmarking this article and sharing with my buds. A big up and more! Thanks Louise.

I love this information! I confess I haven't been using online saving the way I should. Store coupons for big savings are great, too. You just showed us how we can save tons of money! Voted up and useful! Also, when I get a chance, I will link this to my Cheap Tricks hub - it's definitely part of that concept.

Stacking coupons isn't allowed where I live either. Still, if you keep your eyes open you can get a lot of stuff for free or nearly so.

Hi KoraleeP, I think that London Drugs is the online store that allows stacking in Canada, but I have noticed some good opportunities to stack some of the online coupons for Canadian merchants. Each of them has a different policy, though. Thanks for stopping by!
