How to Cope with Oily Skin
By Cloverleaf
If you have oily skin then you probably understand how frustrating it can be.
While oil production is essential as part of keeping skin healthy, some people are prone to oilier skin than others. Oily skin not only makes your skin feel greasy and look shiny; it also leads to unwanted clogged pores and blemishes.
If coping with oily skin is a big concern to you then here are a few tips that should help.
1. Don’t wash your face too often, but when you do, be sure to cleanse gently and thoroughly. The most effective way to keep oil at bay is to cleanse your face once in the morning and once at night using a mild cleanser and warm (not hot) water.
2. It is true that using a toner can help to reduce some oiliness. However, if a toner is applied to dry areas of the skin then it can create dry or flaky patches and further irritation. Therefore, if using a toner simply apply it very gently to the oiliest areas, for example to the forehead and to the nose.
3. Always moisturize your skin daily to help keep it healthy. You might be tempted to stop moisturizing your skin if it feels oily, but you should resist the temptation to do so. Missing a day of proper moisturizing can also make your skin feel dry and flaky in areas. Use an oil-free moisturizer as it will not clog your pores or increase the oiliness of your skin.
4. Consider changing your make-up to a toxin-free mineral makeup such as Pur Minerals which is kind to your skin and looks great, too! Pur Minerals offers a range of skin care and make up products designed to keep oily skin under control and beautiful.
5. Try not to touch your face. Have you ever held a glass in your hand and noticed oily fingerprints building up on the glass? Anyone who owns an iPad will know quickly their screen gets dirty from being touched by greasy fingertips. Oil builds up constantly in our fingertips, and so touching your face often will only transfer this extra oil to your face and will make the problem worse.
6. An amazing little product to carry around with you is “Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets”. They come in a pack of 50 little dry blue wipes that instantly remove excess oil and from the skin, without even disturbing your makeup!
7. Watch your diet. Making subtle changes to your diet can also help with oily skin. Eats lots of fresh fruit, greens and whole grains. Extra sensitive skin can react to certain foods (such as strawberries), so it’s important to keep track of what you are eating. Keeping a food journal will help to find patterns in sensitivity so that you know what foods to avoid.
8. Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. This is particularly important to keep your skin healthy and to release toxins. Drinking hot water is particularly effective and when done on a regular basis will give your skin a nice healthy glow.
Thankfully, coping with an oily face doesn't have to be so difficult. By making a few easy changes to your daily routine you can reduce the excess oil and greasy shine and get on with enjoying your life.

Great hub! I'm guilty of having oily skin. Even though it can be annoying and I shine often I'm thankful. Oily skin actually keeps the wrinkles away longer! Can I get a woot-woot!? :) I do LOVE the absorbing sheets and swear by plain old Witch Hazel for a daily toner. Thanks for the shout-out to oily skin. Voted UP!!
Hi Sunshine625, ooh good idea on the Witch Hazel. Cheers for the vote up and for following, I'm off to check out your hubs now too :-)
